More families this evening. I arrived with S, and we would volunteer for two hours. Several of the children greeted us. I helped only two female students today, one in second grade, another in sixth. Both had math homework, word problems. It seemed that literacy was the focus of both sets of skills–how to interpret the question, the data, and knowing the mathematical procedures to follow. I’m reminded of Moises now:
